Caring for Your Olive Pit Carvings

These carvings don’t like big temperature or humidity swings. Avoid leaving them near radiators, air conditioners, or open windows during rain. Too much moisture can make the pit swell, and dry air might cause cracks. A cool, dry spot is always best.

Oils from your skin are okay in small amounts, but dirt and sweat aren’t. Wash your hands before touching the carving—this keeps grime from building up in the tiny details. If it gets a little dusty, gently brush it with a soft, dry brush (like a clean makeup brush).

Never soak the carving or use soap, polish, or cleaning sprays. Water can damage the wood-like texture of the pit, and chemicals might ruin the natural color and details. A quick brush is all it needs.

When you’re not displaying it, put your carving in a soft pouch or a small box lined with tissue paper. This protects it from scratches and stops it from rubbing against other items that could damage it.

Treat your olive pit carving with a little care, and it will keep telling its story—with all its intricate beauty—for a long time.
